Originally displayed in Chinese Nationality Room. Donated by David Weber, a Chicago-based cleaner and dyer who also specialized in Chinese antique ceramics and jades. On base is a brown mark in Chinese with an attached translation: Young Ching Crackle Vase 1723-1736 yss. The Qing Dynasty Yongzheng Emperor ruled in this period, but the vase is likely from the late 19th century or early 20th century when artworks were often done in an historic style to be exported. The brown faux-bronze enameled bands and handles are typical of the 19th-20th century, and the "crackled" appearance and "rust marks" are likely artificial in an attempt to look older: "Kuan" finish to the glaze.
